The Scarless Chin Implant: How the Intraoral Technique Works

Every chin implant needs a way in. There are exactly two: a small cut in the crease under the chin (submental), or a small incision inside the lower lip — the intraoral route. Dr. Erdal performs chin augmentation predominantly through the second, and the reason is simple: no skin is cut, so there is no visible scar. Ever.

How the intraoral procedure works

  • A short incision is made in the moist lining inside the lower lip — tissue that heals fast and scars invisibly by nature.
  • A precise pocket is developed down onto the chin bone, staying clear of the mental nerves that supply lip sensation.
  • The silicone implant is positioned symmetrically against the bone, checked from every angle, and stabilised.
  • The incision is closed with dissolvable sutures. Nothing to remove; nothing on the skin.

The operation typically takes under an hour as a day case.

The honest trade-offs

Fairness requires the other side. The mouth carries bacteria, so the intraoral route is often quoted as having a somewhat higher theoretical infection risk than the under-chin route — managed in practice with meticulous sterile technique, careful tissue handling and antibiotic cover; infection remains uncommon with either approach in experienced hands. Early after surgery you'll eat soft foods and use antiseptic rinses to protect the healing line, and the lower lip feels swollen and odd for a week or two.

The submental route, for its part, offers a slightly more direct angle to the bone — and leaves a small permanent scar under the chin. Usually faint; never nothing. Dr. Erdal reserves it for specific indications (certain revisions, combined neck procedures) and will tell you plainly if yours is such a case.

Why "scarless" matters more on the chin than people expect

Chins get looked at from below — laughing, on stairs, in cars, on video calls held low. The under-chin crease hides a scar well in a consultation chair and less well in life. For an operation whose whole point is that nobody can tell, an entry route that leaves literally nothing to find completes the logic.

Aftercare specifics for the intraoral route

  • Soft, cool foods for the first days; avoid sharp or very hot food while the line heals.
  • Antiseptic mouth rinses after eating, as instructed.
  • Normal gentle tooth brushing away from the incision.
  • Sutures dissolve on their own within weeks.

Done this way, the only evidence of your chin augmentation is the profile itself.
